FIF Project #004

Today we braved temperatures in the high 90s as we moved into the second day of the Fix it First (FIF) blitz. Despite the heat, volunteers maintained high spirits, learning new skills, solving problems, and getting to know the client.

First up was the removal of a heat conducting, west-facing window and replacing it with a custom-made space for an air-conditioning unit. Later this week, FIF will take on the repair and replacement of two additional windows at this house. The goal is to keep the client cool in the summer and warm in the winter, while reducing her energy costs, and, as a result, helping her save money for future home maintenance.

The client was pleased with the upgrade to her home: “Once I have this done and when I get it paid for, I have some other projects…”
