¡Ven y participa en este taller creativo que se llevará acabo al aire libre en el parque Pearl Baker! En este taller de dos días, los participantes esculpirán pequeñas máscaras folklóricas decorativas. Los participantes del evento también aprenderán sobre la tradición de máscaras de Puerto Rico, y crearán su propia máscara inspirada en el Vejigante. Los Vejigantes son personajes folclóricos divertidos que son símbolos de resistencia gozosa a la asimilación. Aunque tradicionalmente estas máscaras se hacen con cáscaras de coco y papel, en este taller usaremos arcilla fría. Los participantes esculpirán su máscara el primer día y pintarán su obra de arte el segundo día del taller.
Join us for outdoor art sessions at Pearl Baker Park! In this 2-day workshop, participants will be sculpting small decorative folk masks. Event goers will learn about Puerto Rican folk mask tradition, and will create their own mask inspired on the Vejigante character. Vejigantes are fun-loving folkloric characters that are symbols of joyful resistance to assimilation. Although these masks are traditionally made out of coconut husks and papier mache, in this workshop we will be using air-dry clay. Participants will sculpt their mask on the first day, and paint their artwork on the second workshop day.
