Environmental Studies Summer Internship at Epicenter

The town of Green River, population 953, lies at the foot of the dramatic river bluffs of Southeastern Utah. Amid John Wayne’s West and Edward Abbey’s desert wilderness, Green River is a place where the stars shine bold and close, the land is plentiful, and the red dust, burnt cliffs, and lonely sky lie just beyond the end of its roads.

To accentuate Green River’s rural pride and pioneering spirit, the Epicenter provides the community with housing and business resources and promotes the arts through community development projects and programs.

Summer Internship Qualifications/ General Requirements:
-Desire to serve an underserved population in rural Southeastern Utah
-Major in Environmental Studies, History, Outdoor Education
-Self Motivated
-Strong Team Player
-Excellent communication skills
-Cultural sensitivity
-Energy and Enthusiasm for working with children and youth
-Current student or recent graduate of college
-Spanish language proficiency (encouraged but not required)

Internship Description/Potential Responsibilities:
-Partner with Epicenter’s existing local partner organizations to further community development and sustainability in Green River, Utah (e.g. John Wesley Powell River History Museum, Boys and Girls Club of Green River, Green River Thrift Store)
-Assist in project management and administrative support
-Work on several projects and tasks independently (possible projects include: implementing a recycling program in Green River, assisting at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum and their archives, creating a garden and complementary education program at the Boys and Girls Club, leading Natural History hikes and educational adventure activities with the Boys and Girls Club, assisting management at the Green River Thrift Store, implementing new systems for efficiency and sustainability, assisting the NPS with the proposed Green River trails systems, and working on housing projects with our Fix-It-First program)
-Internship is unpaid; Gain experience working with a design and community resource non-profit
-This is an educational opportunity for students and recent graduates to learn about community development and sustainability. Internship is available to start in late May or early June and can last from 4-12 weeks.
